No one could fail to agree that our planet is an amazing one, astounding in its diversity and astonishingly beautiful – and yet it is being destroyed at a scarily rapid pace. Each and every one of us has a responsibility to help stop this destruction, to halt it in its tracks and help to preserve our world for our children and our children’s children.
Human beings can be ridiculously selfish, and unfortunately often just downright stupid. The amount of litter left around the streets, beaches and beautiful national parks shocked many of us during lockdown and beyond. Everyday newly discarded masks and rubber gloves litter our pathways, and photos and images on social media of wildlife caught up in masks or plastic bottles are plentiful. It’s cruel, completely unnecessary and downright depressing. Thankfully there are plenty of people who don’t do this and also those who have taken it upon themselves to make a stand or voluntarily help with the clear up.

Work together
As a child I loved David Attenborough and his melodic, gentle voice – and I still do. Our children love him too. His message has been the same over the years – we all need to act, to do our bit before it’s too late, and at this stage, we really do need to listen. We watched him on a children’s slot on TV the other day talking to young people about what they could do, and it was simple: work together and stop wasting what we have - preserve it, conserve it.
Every little helps
So we have been really making much more of an effort. I’m far from perfect, I have to keep telling myself to switch the tap off when I brush my teeth and not let the water gush away. I have to remind myself to turn the lights off and put a jumper on rather than turn the heating up. Dry the clothes on the drying frame and not use a tumble dryer. Constantly look out for options that are better for the environment. Walk to school, don’t take the car.
It’s a start.
Choose the plastic free option
One of my little luxuries used to be a fancy shower gel or bubble bath product – which largely came in plastic bottles. I now use one of our French soaps instead – no plastic! They are just as rich and moisturising, leaving my skin soft and smelling lovely - and I feel happy that this is helping, maybe only in a small way, but it is helping nonetheless.
Why not try our lovely natural French soaps available in our online shop or on Etsy: LOLAetLULU and ditch your plastic shower gel containers too? It’s definitely worth it.
